The KLEAN fleece shell. A beautiful design with a focus on both sustainability and versatility. Thanks to its timeless design and the choice of 5 different frames, the chair fits seamlessly into any space. Office, meeting room, or maybe even your home?
The beautifully curved seat shell was developed by us, G-Desmet. Sustainability and innovation are at the heart of this project, thanks to the PrimaLoft Bio fibers. PrimaLoft Bio is a felt made from 100% recycled PET material. The fibers are processed to adapt to the natural shapes of the body. So, not only sustainable but also innovative and ergonomic.
The collaboration, step by step
The final product didn’t happen overnight. Together with the designer, we went through a careful process, with every detail meticulously developed. The client’s wishes and service are top priority at G-Desmet.
It all started with a thorough discussion of Marcin's concept and vision. What was his idea? How could we help? What colors were desired? We started with a sketch and developed it into a beautiful design. We then used our CAD software. This software allows reverse engineering, tool design, programming, and simulation as the standard. It helped us shorten the development trajectory and give an initial image of the project.
Then we could start making prototypes. Here, our expertise in bending and material processing came into play. Through close contact with Marcin, we were able to implement feedback directly, improving each prototype step by step. An efficient and effective process. After extensive testing of the prototypes for functionality and comfort, the final production process began.
G-Desmet serves as a intermediary. We provide the essential parts of the creations. The client is responsible for the finishing touches. This allows us to stay focused on our specialty: bending.
Köhl about G-Desmet
A collaboration with Köhl? That went very smoothly and pleasantly if you asked us. But what did Köhl think? We asked Marcin Fijalkowski, Industrial Designer at Köhl, five questions:
- How did you end up at G-Desmet?
This project is not our first with G-Desmet. We have collaborated before. The collaboration was on hold for a while. When we saw the new opportunities and offerings with felt, we decided to reconnect. We were convinced that G-Desmet could help us realize this product.
- What was your first impression upon receiving the products?
Before the first series was produced, G-Desmet delivered several samples. This allowed us to quickly identify small issues and find the right solutions together. G-Desmet also turned out to be a great advisor. Once everything was perfect, the first series was delivered, and it was flawless.
- How did Köhl experience the collaboration? What went well? What could have gone better?
Two SMEs truly complemented each other here. The trust in G-Desmet was certainly strong enough to use an innovative material like Primaloft Bio. Together, we became pioneers in the DACH market (Germany, Austria & Switzerland). There were no negative aspects in the collaboration.
