plywood - what is it?

Plywood is a type of engineered wood that is made by gluing together multiple thin layers of veneer. Depending on your project, the composition can vary. For one project, the layers may be placed perpendicular to each other, while for others, this may change. This ensures that strength and stability – and thus resistance to warping – are central to plywood.

It’s a material that can be used almost anywhere. Furniture making and interior design are its primary applications. From chairs and beds to walls, plywood is favored for its strength and stability.

The concept of plywood is no longer new to you. Now let’s move on to the carefully coordinated process from log to finished idea. The key steps in processing plywood are:

  1. From log to veneer
The first step in making plywood is creating veneer layers. We reduce large logs into very thin layers. The log is placed in a sort of lathe, and the layers are peeled from it. These layers have an average thickness of 1.2 to 1.5 mm.

  2. The art of layers
The veneer layers are then glued together with strong adhesive that meets the E0.5 standard. The number of layers depends on the product and the required strength, all according to your preferences.

  3. Pressing into the mold
The glued layers are pressed into a mold under high pressure to achieve the desired shape. This is done at high temperatures. The correct temperature and pressure ensure the layers bond firmly together. This process takes approximately 10 minutes, depending on the thickness and glue used.

  4. Finishing
Our self-developed CNC calibers carve extraordinary contours that fully meet your piece’s requirements. The resulting shapes are then finished into a product that a further link in the value chain can finish.

It may seem like a short production process, but it’s not. Each step is handled carefully and with all the necessary time to achieve the perfect final result. It requires great craftsmanship and a love for wood.
